Motuora Island - Tree Planting - 27th May 2012
Motuora is being transformed. This Hauraki Gulf island was once a farm but now, with the help of thousands of volunteers, a young forest has been established and a native ecosystem is being rebuilt. "It is our dream that future generations will enjoy a forest alive with native birds, reptiles and insects on Motuora". That statement captures the vision of the Motuora Restoration Society. The Society and the Department of Conservation are working together to make this dream a reality.
TransWorks already has a group of people interested in helping the society.
TransWorks first ever tree planting session will happen on Sunday the 27th of May. This date coincides with the Restoration groups AGM; because of this they are putting on a ferry instead of water taxis. This means our group can travel together.
The ferry leaves from Sandspit. It’s an early start, the water ferry leaves at 8:00am and returns at 4:00pm. I’ll confirm these details closer to the date.
What to bring:
Shoes (and a plastic bag for muddy boots at the end of the day), raincoat, warm clothes, garden gloves, sunscreen, hat, snacks and drinks for your morning break. Sausage sizzle and cuppa provided at lunchtime.
It’s not too late to join in. Just contact Karen to get your name added to the list. It should be a fun day.
